Angry Birds Cake with Toppers

An angry birds cake is a great theme for little kids both boys and girls. These characters do take a bit of time to make but are well worth the effort when you see the kids' excitement about them.  This is a simple and easy progress picture and airbrush technique I used to make this cake.

I made the cake recently to celebrate my son's birthday in school. An absolute winning cake for any 5-year old I think.  Girl or boy they sure love these birds.

My son sat beside me telling me how I should make these. He knew exactly how each one was different from the other. Honestly, I presumed all the green ones were the same but - they are not!

No mama no.. that one has to have a crown. No mama the crown has to be a bit darker than this orange. Mama he's the baby makes him small... ...Ah!! drove me crazy!! But he enjoyed it so much. The excitement of it is so much fun.

I was planning to make a blog post but I had to make a video because I wanted to show you how I airbrushed the cake. So The video has all these pictures below as well as the airbrush video.

Gum paste Angry Birds - toppers

These gumpaste angry birds cake toppers are a great addition to kids' birthday cakes. Kids love this movie and are always excited to have them on the cake. While they a few in number these are extremely simple and easy to make. Here are a few progress pictures.

Gum paste vs. fondant

Always make cake toppers with either edible gum paste or with fondant and CMC added to it. That way the toppers are still edible. My personal preferred method is usually fondant with CMC but in summer the fondant with CMC tends to stay a bit on the softer side.

As you can see, this red fella.
I made a big round ball than just shaped it a bit more. I cut out all these extra pieces of gum paste first then starting putting the pieces together.
For the eyes, I use a circle cutter but when placing them on; I did not keep the round but more oval shape so that would help give me that angry look.

• Blue is more oblong. Same as above put the pieces together.
• The white is more a triangle shape with a round look.
• The yellow is much similar to the white.
• The black is simple and easy.

Instead of the green bird, I was asked to make the green pig.
Quite simple really so did not take any pictures.

For the basket I just rolled long thin sausages onto itself until I had a basket shape; then made the eggs.
